With over 27 years of experience, he has led a wide range of award-winning projects that have established dHKa's reputation for exceptional design. Working closely with both the Nanaimo and Victoria offices, he enjoys the Malahat on his motorcycle when the weather is good.
Rob is one of our Principal Architects based in the Victoria office, bringing over two decades of experience in the architecture industry. Since joining the firm in 2015, Rob has played a key role in overseeing a wide portfolio of projects while leading collaboration between clients, consultants, and municipal partners. His work spans a variety of sectors, with particular expertise in affordable housing, market multifamily developments, senior housing, and mixed-use master planning.
Rob holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Architecture from the University of British Columbia. He is a registered Architect with the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) and a LEED Accredited Professional. His multidisciplinary background supports both the design and strategic development of projects, allowing him to balance architectural vision with practical delivery and long-term value.
At dHKarchitects, Rob is directly involved in business development and project leadership, helping guide projects from early conception through construction. He is inspired by the rapid pace of change in economics, technology, and regulation, and believes that continual learning and adaptation are essential to creating innovative and effective design solutions.
One of the aspects Rob enjoys most about working in architecture is seeing ideas evolve into built form and become part of the community. Outside the office, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and can often be found playing music with dHKarchitects’ famously “super-serious” office band, Not To Scale.
Alex is an Associate Architect at dHKarchitects, having joined the firm at our Victoria location in 2018 with over two decades of experience in the architectural industry. Since beginning his career in 2003, Alex has developed a strong foundation in delivering thoughtful, well-coordinated projects from early concept through construction administration.
Alex holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Bishop’s University and a Master of Architecture from the University of British Columbia. He is a registered Architect with the AIBC and a LEED Accredited Professional, bringing both technical rigour and a sustainability-minded approach to his work.
In Alex’s role as Project Architect, Alex is primarily involved in projects from schematic design through construction administration, with a focus on mixed-use and multi-family developments. His expertise also includes modular construction and comprehensive project management, ensuring design intent is carried through every phase of a project.
Alex’s design approach is grounded in creating rational, functional spaces for living, with a strong appreciation for local West Coast materials and typologies. What he enjoys most about the profession is the constant opportunity to solve new design challenges and continue learning every day.
Eduardo joined the dHKa team in 2015 and brings a wealth of architectural experience from both Canada and Brazil, where he began his career in 2006. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Urbanism from Brazil and has developed expertise across a wide range of projects types, including Residential & Mixed-Use, Institutional & Education, and Health Care & Senior Facilities.
As a Designer and Project Manager, Eduardo supports projects from concept through construction documents, overseeing team coordination, schedules, and cross-disciplinary communication. He is deeply involved in design, 3D modelling, and graphic representation, ensuring that each project is both functional and thoughtfully crafted.
Eduardo’s design approach is inspired by context, materiality, and proportion. He places strong emphasis on the building envelope, where facades, proportions, and materials shape the relationship between a building and its surroundings. He believes that food design emerges from understanding constraints and translating them into clear, functional, and meaningful spaces.
What Eduardo enjoys most about architecture is seeing a project evolve from concept to reality and the opportunity to create environments that improve everyday life. Outside of work, he enjoys travelling to explore new cultures and architecture, bouldering, playing soccer, and spending quality time outdoors with his family.
Emma is a Designer at dHKarchitects, having joined the firm in November 2024. She brings over five years of experience across the arts and design industry, with a background that bridges creative practice, research, and architecture. Prior to entering the profession, Emma was beginning to exhibit her work in galleries as an artist, and dHK marks her first architectural firm since completing her Master of Architecture in 2024.
She holds both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Architecture from the University of British Columbia. During her academic career, she worked as a student design researcher with Architects Against Housing Alienation and the Canada Council, representing Canada at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale. Emma is also currently working towards her architectural licensure.
In her role at dHK, Emma is involved in all phases of project development, including preparing drawing packages, attending site visits, coordinating with clients and consulting teams, and contributing to schematic design for Phase 1 and 2 projects. Her experience to date has focused primarily on multi-family residential projects, with a strong emphasis on project coordination.
Emma is most inspired by the breadth and human-centered nature of architecture, ranging from large-scale residential buildings to material research and the lived experience of space. Outside of the office, she enjoys travelling and photography, and can often be found hiking or skiing on weekends.
Flemming is a Senior Project Manager at dHKarchitects, having joined the firm at our Victoria office in May 2015. With a career in the architectural industry that began in 1989, Flemming brings decades of experience guiding projects through all phases of development.
He holds a Master of Architecture, a Bachelor of Environmental Design, and an Honours Degree in Philosophy, reflecting both technical expertise and a thoughtful, analytical approach to practice. Flemming is a Registered Professional Architect in the State of Alaska, a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), and a LEED Accredited Professional.
In his role at dHK, Flemming is primarily responsible for taking projects from Development Permit Approval through Design Development, Construction Documentation, and Construction, ultimately guiding them to successful occupancy. His day-to-day focus is on managing complex projects with clarity and precision, ensuring design intent, technical requirements, and construction realities are seamlessly aligned.
Gerald joined dHKa in 2011 and brings extensive experience to his role as Project Manager. He began his architecture career in 1993 and holds a Master of Science in Architecture from Delft University of Technology.
Specializing in wood-frame multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs), Gerald manages projects from Design Development through Contract Administration, ensuring each project is tailored to its site, environment, and client needs. He thrives on finding solutions to challenging design problems and enjoys collaborating closely with clients, consultants, and authorities having jurisdiction to bring thoughtful, practical designs to life.
Originally from the Netherlands, Gerald balances his professional focus with a rich personal life, spending his free time cheering on his son in various extracurricular activities.
Jessica joined the dHKarchitects team in 2021 and brings a wealth of experience to her role as an Associate and Project Manager. She holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design from UBC (2007) and a Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon (2013), and she is a registered Architect (AIBC), MRAIC member, and a SEED accredited professional.
At dHKa, Jessica focuses on multi-family projects, master planning, design-build initiatives, and project coordination. Her design approach is inspired by understanding people and place, striving for simplicity, and, above all, having fun. She enjoys collaborating with clients to create designs that meet both current and future needs.
Fun facts about Jessica are that she’s lived in five different countries and channels her creativity as the bassist for the office band, Not 2 Scale. She also enjoys travelling, swimming, cycling, music, and making things.
Kisha is dHKa’s Business and Operations Manager, supporting the firm’s studios in Victoria and Nanaimo. Since joining dHKa in 2023, Kisha has played a key role in keeping the practice running smoothly, overseeing daily operations, human resources, accounting, and business relationships.
With a Bachelor of Science (BSc) and a strong organizational foundation, Kisha brings clarity, structure, and thoughtful problem-solving to the firm’s internal operations. She is deeply involved in supporting staff and leadership alike, helping create an environment where creativity and innovation can thrive. What she enjoys most about her work is having a seat at the table, contributing ideas and inspiring collaboration among a team of artists and innovators from diverse backgrounds.
Outside of work, Kisha enjoys yoga, dance, travelling, and surfing, and spends her downtime with family and friends. You’ll often find her reading, exploring new places, or enjoying the outdoors through water sports, camping, and expedition-style adventures.
Morgan has been a valued member of dHKarchitects since 2005. She began her career in the industry in 2002 and holds a Bachelor’s in Environmental Design from Dalhousie University. In 2009, she continued her architectural studies through the RAIC Syllabus program, completing the rigorous 10+ year program in 2020 while working full-time.
As an Associate Architect and Project Manager, Morgan focuses on multi-family residential projects with a particular emphasis on affordable housing. She approaches design by envisioning herself living in the space she creates, balancing efficiency, warmth, and functionality. Morgan finds a deep satisfaction in seeing projects come to life and working closely with owners and operators to thoughtfully serve residents’ needs. Her work supporting housing for women fleeing violence and at-risk youth is a profound source of pride and fulfillment.
Outside of work, Morgan enjoys beach walks, art workshops, and sunny afternoons on a terrace with a good book and her dog. She has travelled to 24 countries, and hopes to visit Japan next. A quirky, fun fact about Morgan, she can read the Cyrillic alphabet but doesn’t understand it!
Nicolette has been a vital part of the dHKarchitects team since 2014, bringing an extensive amount of experience in architecture and interior design. Since joining the industry in 2003, she has developed a passion for creating environments that not only support but enhance the lives of those who inhabit them, always thoughtfully balancing client budgets and unique project requirements. She holds a diploma in Interior Design from Pacific Design Academy and has completed the RAIC Syllabus Program, which laid the foundation for her thoughtful, user-focused approach to design.
As a Designer and Project Manager, Nicolette specializes in multi-family residential and affordable housing projects, with experience extending to commercial, institutional, healthcare, and senior housing. Her work demonstrates a commitment to durability, sustainability, and thoughtful user-centered design. Ensuring spaces are both functional and welcoming.
Nicolette thrives in the dynamic nature of architecture and design, embracing the constant evolution of each project. She is highly organized and meticulous, bringing clarity and adaptability to every stage from concept development to construction administration. Her dedication to creating spaces that meet users’ unique needs has made her an invaluable contributor to projects.
Outside the studio, Nicolette is an avid gardener, bonsai enthusiast, and musician. She has a keen eye for beauty and detail, whether arranging flowers, training orchids to rebloom each winter, or performing with dHKa’s band “Not 2 Scale”. She also enjoys ocean swimming, crabbing, and exploring culinary adventures from local gems to fine dining.
Paul is an Associate Architect with dHKarchitects, based in our Victoria office. With an academic background spanning regional planning, environmental studies, and architecture, Paul brings a thoughtful and multidisciplinary perspective to the design process. He studied Regional and Urban Planning at the University of Saskatchewan before earning both his Bachelor of Environmental Studies and Master of Architecture from the University of Waterloo.
Paul became a Registered Architect with the Saskatchewan Association of Architects in 2008 and later with the Architectural Institute of British Columbia in 2016. Throughout his career, he has developed particular expertise in the design of public sector buildings, single-family homes, and multi-family residential architecture. His work reflects a balance between thoughtful planning, practical design solutions, and responsiveness to the communities his projects serve.
Outside of the office, Paul enjoys carpentry, fishing, and music – interests that reflect his appreciation for craftsmanship, creativity, and time spent outdoors.
Robert joined the dHKa family in February 2019, bringing a wealth of expertise in architectural technology and building information modelling. He began his career in the industry in 2015 after earning his Diploma in Architectural Building Technology from BCIT and has held credentials as a LEED Green Associate.
At dHKa, Robert focuses on building and maintaining our BIM Models, assisting colleagues with technical questions, and producing construction drawings. He applies a pragmatic design approach, guided by the principle of “form follows function,” aiming to optimize human comfort while navigating the many constraints of a project.
Robert has particular expertise in multi-family residential and long-term care projects. He enjoys that his work sits at the intersection of art and science, where creativity meets problem solving.
Outside the office, Robert can often be found rock climbing or spending time with his cats.
Glenn Hill is a Principal at dHKarchitects, leading the firm’s Nanaimo office. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Architectural Technology from the University of Ulster, a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Queen’s University Belfast, and a Master of Architecture from the University of British Columbia. Glenn is a registered architect with the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) and a member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC).
Glenn began his career in 1993 as an Architectural Technologist in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and brings more than three decades of experience in the architectural industry. Since joining dHKarchitects in 2013, he has played a key role in developing client relationships, pursuing new project opportunities, and supporting project teams throughout the design and delivery process. He also works closely with municipal staff during project development and helps guide projects through approvals and construction.
His areas of expertise include custom single-family homes, multi-family residential, mixed-use, and commercial developments, as well as rezoning projects throughout the Nanaimo and Central Island region.
Glenn is inspired by the vision clients bring to each project and enjoys collaborating with the design team to develop thoughtful concepts that evolve into successful built environments. For him, the most rewarding part of the profession is seeing a project completed and knowing it reflects the collective effort of the entire team.
Outside the office, Glenn enjoys mountain biking, skiing, riding his motorcycle, golfing with his son, and spending time with his family on camping trips in their travel trailer.
Claire has been part of dHKarchitects since 2014, joining the firm during the expansion of de Hoog & Kierulf Architects into Nanaimo. She began her career in the construction industry at a young age, working on highway bridge projects across Vancouver Island before transitioning into architecture in 2007. This early, hands-on experience continues to inform her practical and collaborative approach to design.
Claire holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design with a focus on architecture from the University of Manitoba and a Master of Architecture from Dalhousie University. She is a registered Architect with the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) and a Member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (MRAIC).
As an Associate Architect, Claire works across a wide range of projects, frequently in a lead role. Her portfolio is largely focused on mixed-use multi-family and commercial developments, while also including single-family residences and tenant improvements for medical office spaces. She is particularly skilled in project coordination, working closely with consultants to navigate complex design challenges and deliver cohesive solutions. Within the office, Claire is also a valued mentor, often assisting colleagues with building code interpretation, bylaws, and technical software.
Claire’s design approach is inspired by landscape, context, and detail. Influenced by her travels, particularly her time spent in Barcelona. She values a “zoom-in, zoom-out” perspective, ensuring that thoughtful detailing supports strong overall architectural form. She is most passionate about designing spaces that respond intuitively to how people move, work, and live within them.
Outside the office, Claire enjoys gardening (including tending to a very impressive garlic bed), hiking mountains and coastlines, cycling, and reading in the sunshine. During the winter months, she can often be found knitting with a cup of tea in hand.
Daniel joined dHKarchitects in 2022 as a Building Technologist at our Nanaimo studio, bringing his expertise in commercial renovations and townhouses. With a Diploma in Architecture & Building Technology from BCIT, he focuses on project management, ensuring projects run smoothly from concept to completion.
Daniel’s approach to design is driven by energy efficiency and longevity, reflecting his commitment to creating spaces that are both functional and sustainable. He enjoys the problem-solving aspect of his work, seeing each project as a puzzle to be carefully solved.
Outside of the office, Daniel channels his creativity into writing and cooperative storytelling. He also enjoys hiking, camping, and fishing, taking full advantage of the natural beauty of Vancouver Island.
Daniel joined dHKarchitects in 2024 and brings a strong background in multi-family residential design and site master planning. He began his architectural career in 2017 after completing a degree in Architectural Technology at BCIT, followed by a Master of Architecture from Dalhousie University.
As a Project Architect, Daniel takes a holistic approach to design, considering structure, site, code, program, and systems, approaching each project like solving the faces of a Rubik’s Cube. He thrives on problem-solving and guiding projects from concept through completion, ensuring thoughtful, well-integrated solutions for every client.
Outside of the office, Daniel is a Scout leader and an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying board games, mountain biking, and camping.
Maria joined the team in 2020, bringing over 15 years of experience in architectural design. A graduate of the Moscow Architectural Institute, she earned her Bachelor of Architecture in 2009 and was awarded her qualification as an Architect in 2011, becoming a Registered Architect in Russia.
As an Associate at dHKa, Maria helps guide projects from initial concepts through to finished designs. She works closely with clients and consultants, developing layouts and shaping the form and feel of each building. She particularly enjoys the early stages, when ideas start coming together and the direction of a project is defined.
Maria’s expertise spans multi-family residential, commercial, and single-family projects. She is inspired by the ways thoughtful layouts, materials, and forms can improve everyday life, and she thrives on turning design constraints into opportunities for creative solutions.
When she’s away from her desk, Maria enjoys travelling, hiking, and spending time outdoors. She also has a passion for drawing portraits, a hobby that nurtures her creative perspective both professionally and personally.
Nick, originally from the U.K., joined dHKarchitects in October 2024, bringing nearly three decades of industry experience since beginning his career in 1996. He holds a B.A. (Hons.) in Architectural Studies, a Graduate Diploma in Architecture, and RIBA Professional Practice qualifications, and is a U.K. Registered Architect (ARB).
As an Architectural Technologist at dHKa, Nick is deeply involved in architectural design from schematic through developed design, as well as technical delivery from building permits to detailed construction documentation. His expertise spans multi-family and single- family residential projects, with a particular focus on development permits and construction stages.
Nick’s design approach is rooted in creating thoughtful, context-responsive buildings that balance client vision with technical rigour. He values being closely involved in the construction process and takes pride in delivering architecture that is both well-crafted and enjoyable to inhabit.
Outside of work, Nick enjoys spending time with his family, exploring Vancouver Island, and has a keen interest in classic Italian cars.
Marharyta (Ryta) is a Designer and Architectural Technologist based in our Nanaimo studio. She joined the firm in 2025, bringing international experience from Poland, where she began her career in the architectural industry in 2021. Ryta holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Urban Planning from Vistula University in Warsaw. Her academic background and professional experience have shaped a thoughtful, detail-oriented approach to design, grounded in both technical rigour and spatial clarity.
At dHKa, Ryta works closely with lead Architects through all stages of a project. Her role includes developing 3D models, preparing architectural drawings and technical drawings, and supporting design development under the guidance of licensed Architects. She is most involved in multi-family residential projects, renovations, reconstructions, and low-rise residential complexes.
Ryta is inspired by functional, well-proportioned spaces and carefully considered details that respond to both the site and the people who use them. She enjoys transforming ideas into clear, practical designs and values the collaborative process that brings projects to life.
Outside of work, Ryta enjoys travelling and exploring new cultures, often seeking out beautiful places to watch the sunrise. A true language enthusiast, English is her fourth language, and she has recently started learning a fifth.
Tyler is a Senior Architectural Technologist based in our Nanaimo office. Since joining the firm in 2021, he has played an integral role in project management and team coordination, guiding projects from early design stages through to turn-key occupancy.
Tyler began his career in the architectural industry in 2016 after completing his Diploma in Architectural Technology and Building Science at BCIT. He is a standing member with the Architectural Institute of British Columbia as an Architectural Technologist. His experience spans a wide range of project types, including multi-family residential, commercial developments, tenant improvements, and as-built remediations.
His approach to design focuses on site-responsive solutions that emphasize practicality and time-tested building strategies. Tyler particularly enjoys collaborating with construction teams and working through real-world site challenges during the construction phase to deliver thoughtful and effective solutions.
Outside of work, Tyler enjoys home restoration projects, maintaining an active fitness routine, and experimenting with microbrewing.
Zerai is an Interior Designer based out of dHKarchitects’ Nanaimo office. She has played a key role in starting up the firm’s Interior Design services since joining in 2025. She holds a Bachelor of Interior Design from Vancouver Island University and began gaining industry experience in 2021 while working as a student interior designer during her studies.
At dHKarchtitects, Zerai leads the interior design scope of projects from concept through completion. Her work includes client meetings, schematic design, concept development, space planning, FF&E packages, consultant coordination, and the creation of full drawing packages. She also supports the architectural team on tenant improvement projects and multi-family residential developments, contributing her expertise in efficient and thoughtful space planning.
Zerai’s design approach is influenced by neutral palettes, rich textures, and layered materials, creating interiors that feel refined, timeless, and functional for the end user. She specializes in selecting distinctive furnishings, sophisticated finishes, and artful lighting that elevate and complement the surrounding architecture.
In addition to her design work, Zerai manages the firm’s social media presence, developing engaging content and coordinating posting strategies that showcase the team’s work and culture.
Outside of the studio, Zerai enjoys playing volleyball, practicing new languages, volunteering in her community, and planning future travelling adventures. She values collaboration, creativity, and bringing authenticity and empathy into every design process.
Zoe is an Interior Designer at our dHKarchitects’ Nanaimo office. She first joined the firm as an intern in 2023 while completing her Bachelor of Interior Design and returned in 2024 as a permanent member of the team. Zoe is currently an Intern Interior Designer with the Interior Designers Institute of British Columbia (IDIBC), and is working towards becoming a Registered Interior Designer (RID).
Her role at the firm spans both interior design and architectural design work. On the interior side, Zoe focuses on early-stage design development, including space planning, concept development, FF&E selections, and coordination with consultants and clients. She also oversees interior design proposals, contract administration, and furniture procurement, helping guide projects through construction.
Architecturally, Zoe contributes to early planning and design stages for projects such as rezoning and development permit applications. Her work includes site planning, unit layouts, form and character development, and research-based design strategies that consider target demographics and user needs. She also has knowledge of Rick Hansen accessibility guidelines and has incorporated these into project designs.
Zoe is inspired by creating spaces that balance function and aesthetics while responding to the surrounding site and the needs of the end user. She particularly enjoys the creative challenges that come with working within design constraints such as building codes, budgets, and client goals.
Outside of work, Zoe enjoys cooking and experimenting with new techniques and cuisines. She also spends her free time attending concerts and lectures, reading, practicing yoga, and spending time with friends and family.
Serving the entirety of Vancouver Island, dHKarchitects maintains active studios in both Victoria and Nanaimo.
